Mitch McConnell Returns To The Senate In A Wheel Chair

Back in June, McConnell was hospitalized for a fall, and subsequently spent time in a rehabilitation center after contracting a case of pneumonia. Throughout his medical leave, he's consistently assured his constituents that he is on the mend and will undoubtably be keeping his role as Senator.

Prior to making his appearance on Monday, McConnell released a statement announcing his return. "Today, I’ll cast my first Senate vote since I took a bad fall back in June. I’m really looking forward to being back on the Senate floor and seeing my colleagues," he said.

"My recovery has been a long and often frustrating process, and the lingering effects of childhood polio haven’t made it any easier. I’m still not quite back to 100%, but I’ve assured Leader Thune that, as I continue with physical therapy on the advice of my doctors, I will do my best to be present for tough votes when our Conference needs me," he continued.

"Elaine and I are very grateful for all the continued well wishes from our fellow Kentuckians, and I’m glad to get back to more of business as usual on their behalf this month," he concluded.

Social Media Reactions

Across social media platforms, users didn't necessarily welcome the Senator back with open arms. Rather, they called him out for holding onto a role he seemingly doesn't have the capacity to handle. "Seems totally unfit to run a state," one person wrote on Instagram.

"Age limits and term limits, please!" posted another user.

"It's time for him to step down," wrote a third person.

"We need laws to forcefully push these parasite career politicians like Mitch McConnell who refuses to leave even if they don't have the memory to function like a normal person," said another. "I can't believe people like him are making decisions for this country."

"At what age do we say is enough?" asked the next. "This is crazy."

"Retire already!" urged a final user.
