If you are concerned about hair loss, it’s a good idea to take a closer look at all of the hair products you use, paying close attention to any harmful ingredients they might contain. Although there are plenty of factors that may be contributing to your hair thinning, this is probably the easiest one to address.
With that in mind, keep reading for the one hair product you should never use cause it can lead to hair loss!

Hair Products with Silicone
If you're concerned about hair loss, checking your hair products for potentially damaging ingredients, including silicone, is important. Nunzio Saviano, owner of Nunzio Saviano Salon in NYC, tells StyleCaster, "Silicone coats the hair shaft for a sleek shiny finish, but it prevents the real nutrients from conditioners to penetrate the hair shaft."
This can dry out the hair, making it more vulnerable to breakage and damage.

Using a hair product with silicone can start to an unhealthy wash cycle, which could lead to more hair problems and damage. Ron McLaughlin, vice president of research and development at Living Proof, explains how this cycle can impact your hair.
He tells Mind Body Green, "The obvious drawback of all this is that you end up with hair that gets weighed down or greasy, so you are more likely to shampoo and style more often. This perpetuates what we call the cycle of damage. The more you wash and style, the more damaged your hair is, so the more you will feel like you need to reach for a silicone to get that soft feeling again. It's a vicious cycle."

The founder of SEEN Hair Care, Harvard-trained dermatologist Iris Rubin, expands on this so-called "vicious cycle" for Mane Addicts.
She explains, "Silicones can build up on the hair, which can weigh it down and give it a dull appearance. Non water-soluble silicones, in particular, can build up and may require a sulfate-based shampoo to remove the buildup, and sulfates can dry out the hair!"
Thus, the cycle continues.

With that in mind, make sure to look out for hair products that are low in silicone or completely silicone-free. This can protect your hair from avoidable damage, which can exacerbate any hair thinning and fall out.
