If you have hooded or sagging eyelids and find that eyeshadow just doesn’t look right, you’re not imagining it—it’s a common struggle. But according to makeup artist Becky Lovric, there’s a simple eyeshadow technique that can dramatically lift and open the eyes, especially for mature skin.
In a recent TikTok, she broke down her go-to method that helps recede the hood and create the illusion of a more lifted, youthful eye shape.

Use a mid tone matte shade
“The key to it all is this color right here,” Lovric says, pointing to a mid-tone matte eyeshadow. “Use a mid tone matte shade and contour out your eye.” Instead of placing the shadow directly in the crease (which may no longer be visible on hooded eyes), she recommends blending it above the crease—right onto the hooded part of the eyelid. “That’s what you want to recede into the background,” she explains, “so your hooded area doesn't appear so front and center and obvious.”
To take the lift even further, Lovric suggests adding a darker shade to the outer corner of the eye. “It’ll bring it more further back, opening your eyes up and elongating them to the side.” A light shimmer or pale shade on the mobile lid helps add brightness and dimension, while a touch of highlight in the tear duct and under the brow arch creates an even more lifted effect. “Gorgeous,” she finishes.

The bottom line
This method isn’t about fighting your features—it’s about enhancing what you already have with a smart placement of color. With just a few shadow shades and strategic blending, Lovric’s technique offers a subtle but powerful transformation that flatters eyes at any age.
