Queen Camilla Reportedly Asked Kate Middleton To Change The Spelling Of Her Name
According to royal expert Christopher Anderson, author of the upcoming biography Kate! The Courage, Grace, and Power of the Woman Who Will Be Queen, Kate Middleton and Queen Camilla didn't always get along. The Queen reportedly asked her to change the spelling of her name to "Katherine," rather than "Catherine," because she felt like having three "C" names in the family felt like "overkill."
Camilla, who at the time was The Duchess of Cornwall alongside the then-Prince Charles, reportedly felt like a "logical progression" because much of the world called her by her nickname, Kate, but according to Anderson, it didn't go over well with the future King and Queen.

Kate Middleton 'Offended' By Queen Camilla's Request
Anderson wrote in his biography that Middleton was "offended" by the suggestion, but Prince William was even angrier. He reportedly found the idea "insulting, not only to Kate but to her entire family," referring to the Middletons. It sounds like he put his foot down, though.
Prince Harry also referenced this request from Charles and Camilla in his 2023 memoir, Spare. "I remembered the time [Charles] and Camilla wanted Kate to change the spelling of her name, because there were already two royal cyphers with a C and a crown above," he wrote. "Charles and Camilla. It would be too confusing to have another. Make it Katherine with a K, they suggested."
