Khloé Kardashian, like her sisters and other famous family members, is a pet owner. Though she seemingly cares about them a lot, she’s receiving a whole lot of backlash over something she did involving her cats.

The reality star recently admitted on her podcast that she had gotten both of her cats declawed, after being “misadvised” on the process. Declawing domesticated cats is a very controversial pet owner decision that’s often labeled as “cruel,” given it can affect how they walk, behave, and defend themselves. Therefore, once Khloé had revealed what she had done, thousands of social media users and animal rights activists began slamming her online. Read more about the situation below.

Khloé Kardashian Admits To Having Her Two Cats Declawed During Recent Podcast Episode

The popular television personality has achieved a lot in her career, though right now, one of her most successful projects has been her podcast, Khloé In Wonder Land. On her show, she's shown an even more vulnerable, "real" side of herself, sharing lots of personal stories and often answering questions from her fans and viewers.

During one of her most recent episodes, she talked about her experience as a pet owner. On Keeping Up With The Kardashians, she famously had her black Labrador, Gabbana, who passed away in 2018. Since then, she's gotten two grey cats, Grey Kitty and Baby Kitty, and a new Labrador, Peppermint.

Khloé has shared snaps of her cats on social media, usually of her snuggling up with them or her kids playing with them. However, as loved as those cats may be, she recently owned up to doing something many experienced cat owners, animal rights enthusiasts, and pet experts would strongly advise against - she had them declawed.

Declawing a cat is the process of surgically amputating the last bone of a cat's toes to get rid of their claws, and is known to have serious health consequences.

"I was really misadvised about getting my cats declawed," she admitted. "I've never owned cats before. I didn't even know that was a thing. I feel really, really terrible that I did go in this direction. My cats wear Air Tags, like they're not allowed to even go near a door. I'm so afraid [that they'll] get out, because they have no way to defend themselves. They've lost their protection tools, so it makes me sad."

Social Media Users Slam Khloé's Confession Online

After her podcast episode aired, in which the 41-year-old revealed her controversial decision as a cat owner, and how it ended up making her cats "miserable," it didn't take long for numerous social media users to hone in on that one part of her story and spread it around on various platforms.

According to the animal rights organization, Humane World For Animals, declawing "can cause lasting physical and behavioral problems for your cat."

"Declawing significantly increases the odds of back pain, litter box aversion, and biting. Declawing is banned or considered unethical in dozens of countries around the world. In the U.S., multiple states, the District of Columbia, and more than a dozen cities have banned declawing."

On platforms like Reddit, Instagram, and more, social media users slammed Khloé, noting that the action of declawing her cats was "inhumane," but also illegal in the state of California.

"I bet you Googled all the Botox and plastic surgeries you had, but couldn't do it for the cat," wrote an Instagram user.

"A quick Google search would have answered your question about declawing your cat," echoed another. "It's inhumane."

"Such a cruel thing to do," wrote another.

"You shouldn't even have pets," commented a user, with another adding, "That is one of the most ridiculous excuses I've ever heard."

"Maybe 25 years ago someone could claim ignorance, but today, with unlimited access to information and advances in science and animal knowledge, there is simply no excuse for supporting or defending declawing," they continued. "It's unacceptable and deeply disappointing."
