Kathy Griffin has shared some devastating news about her health. The 60-year-old comedian and actress recently revealed that she has been diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer, and has just undergone surgery to remove half of her lung.
An to make matters worse, in a recent update on her operation and recovery, Griffin shared that the procedure was worse than she thought it would be.
She told fans in an Instagram post, “To be honest, this cancer surgery was a little more than I had anticipated. Tonight will be my first night without any narcotic painkillers. Hello Tylenol, my new best friend!”
Griffin then revealed that she has chosen to abstain from taking any prescription pain medication during her recovery process, explaining, “I fear drugs and addiction more than I fear cancer.”
Griffin opened up about her past challenges with drugs, revealing that she had been hospitalized last year after an overdose on prescription pills and has been drug-free ever since.
She wrote in her post, "The last time I was in the hospital was in June 2020... with over a year clean and drug free, I now know I can do this and anything I want without those devil pills."
Fans responded in the post's comments with messages of encouragement, commending Griffin's bravery with her health and willingness to be so open about her challenges.

The comedian had used her Instagram account to announce her cancer diagnosis earlier in the week. She explained that, "Yes, I have lung cancer even though I've never smoked!"
Griffin said that her prognosis seems positive, and that, "The doctors are ery optimistic as it is stage one and contained to my left lung."
She has not yet shared any more updates on her medical status and cancer battle since having a part of her lung removed this week.
