1. Your Skin Is Dehydrated

One of the most common causes of dull-looking skin is dehydration. When skin lacks moisture, it can appear rough, flat, and less radiant.

"Your skin is dehydrated," Dr. Ingky explains. To help restore hydration, he recommends drinking at least 2 liters of water each day while also using a hydrating moisturizer to lock in moisture and support the skin barrier.

Keeping your skin hydrated from both the inside and outside can help improve its overall texture and give it a healthier glow.

2. Dead Skin Cells Have Built Up

Another hidden culprit behind dull skin is a buildup of dead skin cells. "When you have excessive dead skin cells, your skin looks dull," Dr. Ingky says.

Instead of relying on harsh physical scrubs, he recommends using a chemical exfoliant once or twice a week. Ingredients such as salicylic acid and glycolic acid can help dissolve dead skin cells, revealing fresher, brighter skin underneath.

It's important not to over-exfoliate, however, as doing so can damage the skin barrier and lead to irritation.

3. Your Diet Is High in Processed Foods and Sugar

Healthy skin starts from within, and Dr. Ingky says your diet can have a noticeable impact on your complexion. If you're regularly eating processed foods and sugary snacks while skimping on nutrient-rich meals, your skin may reflect those habits.

"You are consuming a diet high in processed food and sugar and low in nutrients," he explains. Instead, he recommends focusing on a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, healthy fats, and lean proteins. Foods packed with antioxidants may also help protect skin from oxidative stress, which can contribute to a dull appearance.
