It’s no secret that Gwyneth Paltrow has built herself a reputation as the ‘queen of unconventional wellness treatments.’ However, some think she’s taken this one too far.
The Goop founder recently revealed she received a super controversial blood ‘detox’ treatment that is typically meant for people with autoimmune issues. The treatment, which costs nearly $50,000, is meant to remove toxins from someone’s blood, and once she had it done, Gwyneth admitted to feeling “amazing.” However, many believe this is another example of her using her star privilege to try out a treatment that’s likely unnecessary for someone like her. Gwyneth Paltrow Admits She Had A Blood-Filtering Treatment In A New Interview
The Marty Supreme actress is known for her curiosity surrounding alternative medicine and wellness treatments to make yourself feel better, 'detox,' and more. From purposefully getting stung by bees to rectal ozone therapy, the lifestyle guru is not afraid to try something new.
In a new interview with Daily Mail, Gwyneth opened up about a more intense medical treatment she opted to receive, a blood-filtering treatment known as therapeutic plasma exchange. The process is intended to help filter out toxins from the blood, like mold and other harmful substances. It is intended for people with autoimmune diseases, as it can offer them quick relief from symptoms and balance their immunity.
The treatment has become controversial, as it's not only expensive, costing around $50,000 for many, but it also comes with serious risks, from blood clots to infection. Therefore, it's mostly suggested if it's absolutely necessary.
"I'd been going through lots of health stuff with that kind of ambiguous chronic stuff that medicine normally has a harder time dealing with: chronic fatigue, brain fog," said Gwyneth, who admitted she had it done at a clinic in Chicago.

Gwyneth Paltrow Says She Feels 'Amazing' Following The Treatment
While the treatment is controversial and risky, the mom-of-two has been fairly open about her health issues in the past, more recently mentioning she was dealing with autoimmune issues and some chronic inflammation, which were likely contributing factors to her wanting to undergo therapeutic plasma exchange. After going through five treatment sessions in Chicago and dropping a lot of money, Gwyneth boasted to the above publication about how well it worked for her and how much better she feels.
"I was so interested in this idea that we could filter out things in our blood that were making us more sick," she admitted. "I felt amazing after. I felt this immediate unburdening and clarity and lightness."
On social media, some fans were happy to hear that she had some relief from any bothersome symptoms she was experiencing. However, there were others who felt this was another instance of her being a rich, famous celebrity who has the luxury of cherry-picking treatments that most normal people cannot receive.
"What a weird procedure to have on a healthy person, let alone any person," commented an internet user. "She is just plain weird," added another.
