President Trump Gives Lindsey Graham’s Casket Two Light Taps During His Funeral In Livestream Footage

On Tuesday, politicians and notable figures gathered in Washington, D.C. for the funeral of the famous Lindsey Graham, the Senator from South Carolina who worked in Congress from 1995 all the way until his death on July 11th, 2026, at the age of 71.

President Donald Trump attended Graham’s funeral service at the Washington National Cathedral on Tuesday, where he also delivered a eulogy to honor the longtime senator, who also ended up being one of his close political allies. The memorial drew a number of prominent political figures, including Vice President JD Vance, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, members of Congress, etc.

Before taking his seat after his eulogy, where he made viral comments about “not everybody” liking Lindsey and veering off script, the 80-year-old approached the late politician’s flag-draped casket, paused to pay his respects, and was captured briefly giving it what many online described as “a little tap” before walking away. Users cropped a clip of the moment from livestreams of the funeral, which quickly made rounds on social media.

Trump's Casket Tapping Clip Goes Viral On Social Media

There were a lot of moments from the late attorney and senator's funeral on Tuesday that began circulating on social media afterward, from the Apprentice star's eulogy lines to clips of the other notable attendees. However, the cropped clips of the president tapping Graham's casket went especially viral, as users couldn't get over how awkward and unexpected it seemed.

There were some loyal fans of his who felt that the tapping was a sign of respect and affection for his departed colleague, while others felt it was uncomfortable and almost disrespectful in the way he went about it.

"Trump's farewell has all the warmth of checking a watermelon," joked an X user.

"Nobody would ever do that if they were alone with the casket," responded another. "That's for the cameras. For Trump."

One user wrote that the "little tap" was an example of the president "faking emotions," as an Instagram user noted "he did the same thing to the World Cup trophy," referencing when he gave the trophy a tap while appearing at the final earlier this month.

"He is a complete buffoon," added an Instagram user. "Zero empathy and sincerity."

"This man is so awkward in doing anything," wrote another.
