Both Donald Trump and Melania Trump made headlines during the Mother’s Day ceremony honoring military mothers and spouses at the White House on Wednesday, May 6th.

The First Lady made the audience (and then the internet!) erupt with laughter after she appeared unable to keep a straight face while calling her husband an “empathetic” and “caring leader” during a speech. The moment will unsurprisingly live rent-free in many people’s minds for a long time!

And the POTUS, 79, also caused a stir after making a “creepy” comment saying he only invited one of the moms to speak during the event because of how she looks. (Yes, really!) And now he is in the spotlight once again, after people noticed his hand looking more bruised, swollen, and discolored than ever during the event.

Donald Trump's Hand Looks Swollen And Bruised At White House Mother's Day Event

People have observed Trump's hand looking bruised and swollen for a while now, including during King Charles and Queen Camilla's state visit, pictured below. And it appeared to look worse than ever at the Mother's Day event, with many people thinking the bruising is spreading!

Trump has seemingly tried to cover the bruises with makeup on many occasions, although neither he, nor his makeup artist, has been able to disguise them properly.

Many people have previously speculated that the bruising could be related to IV infusions or blood thinners, while others have suggested that congestive heart failure could be a possibility. Some have also wondered whether it could be a hematoma caused by damaged blood vessels.

The White House addressed the speculation in July last year, claiming the discoloration was simply due to "frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin."

Donald Trump Discusses His Health And Hand Bruising

Earlier this month, Trump was asked about his health and his hand bruising while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One. "I'm very good. I clipped it on the table. So I put a little… what do they call it… cream on it. But I clipped it," he reportedly said, in reference to his hand.

He then went on to say: "I would say take aspirin if you like your heart, but don't take aspirin if you don't want to have a little bruising."

"I take the big aspirin. And when you take the big aspirin, they tell you that you bruise," he added. "The doctors said, 'You don't have to take that, sir. You're very healthy.' I said, 'I'm not taking any chances.' That's one of the side effects of taking aspirin."

Reddit Users React

"Bruised, puffy, and painted," commented one Reddit user. "He's deteriorating," thought a second, as a third quipped: "He's actually starting to look like a grotesque rainbow if you include all the colors top to bottom."

"I'm more worried about the obvious deterioration of his brain," declared a fourth, as a fifth echoed: "Swollen hands, swollen brain?"

Many others slammed the color matching, with a sixth person writing: "You'd think the POTUS could get a decent makeup artist before going out in public." "With all the mismatching oranges, he looks like a paint swatch wall at a Lowe's," joked  a seventh, as an eighth mocked: "Have they tried giving him Cheetos? Cheeto dust should match nicely."

"They must be putting the wrong concealer color on him on purpose. You know how easy it is to match skin tone these days? He has all the money in the world, they could pick up the right shade at CVS," noted a ninth.

Others tried to explain what it could be, with a tenth theorizing: "Definitely getting IVs of some sort. I know, I've had about half a dozen in the last six months and the back of your hands are swollen bruise city."

An eleventh chimed in: "Nurse here... looks like an IV infiltration rather than swelling. Kinsula or Lecanemab are IV medications for dementia, and in a hand or arm IV. His fingers aren't swollen, just the back of the hand. That's what a bit of IV fluid there would look like if the vein blew, maybe when it's being flushed after administration."
