Summertime is in full swing, and it’s not just affecting you; there’s a good chance it’s also affecting the quality of your iPhone.
During warmer months, some iPhone users don’t realize that their device is much more prone to overheating than ever. For years, tech experts have been noting that heat is one of a smartphone’s biggest enemies, which is why they advise iPhone users to be especially mindful of how hot it gets. If you’ve been experiencing a lot of iPhone ‘temperature warnings’ so far this summer or want to prevent getting them, read more about two settings that tech experts say can help with the situation below.

1. Turn Off Background App Refresh
Background App Refresh is one of those settings many iPhone users never think twice about, but it could be one of the big contributing factors to your phone heating up more than necessary. If your device has been feeling unusually warm this summer, turning this feature off may help reduce some of the extra work happening behind the scenes.
"Many users assume overheating is caused only by what they are actively doing on their phone," explains tech expert and HasData CTO, Roman Milyushkevich. "In reality, dozens of apps can continue syncing data, checking for updates, and refreshing content in the background. Disabling background app refresh for apps that do not need constant updates reduces processor activity and network usage, which lowers heat generation, especially during hot weather when the phone has less ability to cool itself."

2. Reduce Screen Brightness/Turn On Auto-Brightness
If you've been spending more time outdoors this summer, chances are you've been turning up your screen brightness to see your iPhone more clearly. Let's face it, using your iPhone in the sunshine can get a little irritating at times, especially if you're at the beach or poolside. However, keeping your phone's screen at maximum brightness for long periods can cause a build-up of excess heat, making it worth adjusting your settings.
"Running your display at maximum brightness forces the battery to work overtime, creating more heat and causing the phone to throttle performance to protect itself. Auto-Brightness adjusts the screen and keeps temperatures under control," notes tech pro and store owner Steven Athwal. "Heat is the biggest enemy of a smartphone battery!"
