Lara Trump found herself having what seemed to be an unexpected social media whoopsie after a casual family selfie she shared from the 2026 FIFA World Cup final appeared to contain some odd editing.
These days, with social media and beauty standards that have evolved so much, it's typically expected for celebrities or public figures, even political ones, to utilize some kind of filter, Photoshop, or overall editing in their photos. The glammed-up women of the Trump family are no exception, with their meticulously crafted social media presences. However, the former co-chair of the Republican National Committee made a mistake with her editing that the public quickly noticed.
Lara, who is the daughter-in-law of President Donald Trump, attended the highly anticipated soccer match on Sunday, July 19th, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where she shared a series of photos that captured her family's experience at the big game. One of those pictures was a selfie with her young daughter, Carolina, and her sister-in-law Tiffany Trump. However, her followers and other users quickly noticed strange details in the photo, including distorted-looking hands and features that appeared to be awkwardly edited.
Lara Admits To Using An AI Editing Tool On Her Story
Though her Instagram post contained numerous photos from her influential family's time at the big game, it didn't take long for social media users to start calling out the distorted-looking one in the picture. They took notice of things like her daughter's drink's straw looking extra long, her hands looking unnatural, and more.
The backlash later caused her to address the picture on her Instagram story, where she used a bit of humor and a laughing emoji to own up to editing the selfie.
"When AI takes over..." she wrote in her story caption. "The app I used to fit this in the frame changed my nails and made Carolina's straw SOOO long."
Her story ended up garnering a lot of attention as well. While there were some supporters who were happy to laugh off the situation as she did, there were other internet users who weren't as understanding, eventually slamming the mom-of-two on the same platform under reposts.
"That's crazy, I've never done that with family pictures," commented an Instagram user. "My kids are my kids, and I want to see them how they are!"
"Trump family might as well start calling themselves artificial intelligence family," wrote another.
One user called Lara's decision to edit her picture "trashy," as another commented, "Everything about this entire family is fake."
