I’m at my least fashionable in the winter.
Once the temperatures drop, I basically live under oversized coats and practical boots, and my handbag choices follow suit. In the snow and slush, I default to one oversized tote that can survive the elements (and hold pretty much everything I own).
But with spring finally on the horizon, I’m ready for a reset—and that includes my purse collection. This season’s trending bags feel both practical and playful in a way that actually makes getting dressed more fun. Yes, practicality is still key (think roomy totes and mini shoulder bags that actually stay on your shoulders), but there’s also plenty of personality in the mix. If my FYP is any indication, bright colors, playful shapes, and woven or textured bags are everywhere right now.
Below, dive into the major spring purse springs to know now, and get your wallets ready!
Mini Shoulder Bags
Mini shoulder bags are back in the spotlight, thanks to their sleek, ’90s-inspired shape and close-to-the-body fit. They’re compact enough to feel light and effortless, but still roomy enough for the essentials (your phone, card case, and lip gloss) making them the perfect grab-and-go option for spring.
Madewell The Top Zip Mini Shoulder Bag ($158)
Madewell’s The Top Zip Mini Shoulder Bag captures everything I love about the mini shoulder bag revival. The structured, boxy silhouette nods to ’90s minimalism, and the longer top handles sit neatly on the shoulder.
It’s streamlined and elegant, but definitely not boring. Case in point: that removable chain with charms taps into the resurgence of hardware and playful details I’ve been seeing all over the runways and in street style. It adds just enough personality to make this bag feel current.
Playful Shapes
From dumpling-inspired drawstring pouches to exaggerated, sculptural silhouettes, playful shapes are everywhere this spring. After so much minimalism, it feels refreshing to let your bag be the statement piece.
Kate Spade New York duo pebble leather crossbody bag ($298)
The Kate Spade New York Duo Pebble Leather Crossbody Bag is a great example of how playful shapes can still feel polished. Its crescent silhouette gives it that curved, fashion-forward profile that’s been all over my social feeds lately, and the richly pebbled leather keeps it classic and wearable.
What makes this design especially fun is the detachable zip pouch, which (thanks to that adjustable, removable strap) can be worn on its own.
Large Tote
The oversized, slouchy silhouette is modern yet effortless, proving that sometimes the best accessory is the one that can carry everything you need without sacrificing style. And for me—a full-time working mom—that’s especially good news, since I like to be prepared for just about every occasion.
MANGO Large Faux Leather Shopper Tote ($69.99)
I’ve always appreciated how MANGO makes trend-forward pieces feel accessible, and the Large Faux Leather Shopper Tote is a perfect example. The minimal design works with just about everything in your closet, while the roomy silhouette makes it genuinely practical for real life. When it comes to large totes, sometimes simple really is best.
Bright & Colorful
After a winter full of neutrals, it’s refreshing to reach for a brightly-colored bag. This spring is all about saturated hues, playful shades, and bags that practically do the styling work for you.
Desigual Faux Leather Shoulder Bag ($119)
The vibrant orange hue of this Desigual Faux Leather Shoulder Bag feels like an instant shot of serotonin, which is exactly the mood boost that spring calls for. With its ’90s-inspired shape and sleek shoulder silhouette, it taps into the mini bag trend while still feeling bold and expressive.
The optional straps make it easy to wear as a shoulder or crossbody style, but the saturated shade is the real standout.
Structured
For a put-together look, nothing beats a polished top-handle silhouette or boxy shape to elevate even a basic outfit. Structured bags always feel timeless, and their clean, architectural lines give off quiet-luxury energy while staying completely wearable for everyday.
JW PEI Elise Faux Leather Top Handle Bag ($99)
The JW PEI Elise Faux Leather Top Handle Bag is a perfect example of why structured bags never really go out of style. With its defined shape, sleek top handle, and gleaming hardware, it instantly pulls a look together.
And that deep burgundy shade feels slightly unexpected for spring, which makes it all the more chic. While pastels and brights tend to dominate this time of year, a darker tone like this adds depth and sophistication without feeling out of place.
Woven & Textured
Woven and textured bags feel tailor-made for spring. Their artisanal, basket-weave finishes and touchable texture bring an easy elegance to your outfits (and I’m not the only one who thinks so).
Dune London Dinideliberate Top Handle Bag ($165)
This Dinideliberate Top Handle Bag by Dune London is a standout example of the woven/textured trend. The mixed-texture exterior gives it that dimensional, artisanal feel that makes spring bags so appealing, and it’s balanced out by the structured top handle silhouette.
And can we talk about that gorgeous pale blue shade?! It’s soft and fresh, but striking enough to stand out. It’ll pair beautifully with neutrals, denim, or crisp whites.
After a winter of hiding under heavy coats and oversized carryalls, it feels good to let your accessories shine. I’m ready for the spring refresh!
