The View Panel Discusses Donald Trump's Approval Rating

On the May 4th episode of The View, co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Sara Haines spoke about how Trump's approval rating appears to be affected by everything from the Iran war to gas prices and the cost of living.

He reportedly has a 35% average approval rating in CNN's Poll of Polls, which is reportedly almost George W. Bush territory. Bush is said to be the only president since Jimmy Carter to spend a sustained period of time in the mid-30s or lower.

Farah Griffin spoke about the cost of living and things being "unattainable" and "too expensive" during the segment. saying Trump was "losing people," including those who voted for him.

Sunny Hostin and Whoopi Goldberg

Sunny Hostin And Whoopi Goldberg Debate Trump's Republican Support

Hostin replied: "I don't know. I think that he is deeply unpopular with Democrats. He's deeply unpopular with Republican-leaning independents. But what's interesting to me is he remains popular with Republicans. His approval rating has held steady at 85 percent."

"Eighty-five percent of Republicans think he's their guy," she continued. "It's like their clown and their circus. It is unbelievable to me that there are still people – despite the fact that they don't have health care, despite the fact that the Department of Education has been gutted, despite the fact that they can't afford to buy eggs – they are still with their guy."

"Those are not the ones that are still with him," Goldberg chimed in. "All the ones that are still with him are the ones that can afford all those things," she continued, to which Hostin replied: "Yeah, good point."

Ana Navarro and Whoopi Goldberg

Ana Navarro And Whoopi Goldberg Talk About Farmers Struggling

Navarro then spoke about how farmers are suffering greatly too right now, arguing that rising costs tied to global tensions in the Middle East could have a devastating impact on agriculture and grocery prices across the country. She also pointed out that many farmers were part of Trump's loyal voter base, making the issue even more significant politically!

Navarro said: "So farmers are not being able to secure fertilizer, which means the crop yields are going to be greatly diminished, which means what we all pay in the grocery store is going to rise in prices, and farmers are going bankrupt. And this was his base, and he's not doing a thing."

Goldberg then went on to say: "And we've been pointing it out because when he gave – what was it – Argentina? $40 billion and left our farmers going, 'What the [expletive] is going on? We voted for you.' That's when his base started to erode. That's when I thought he would recognize he was in trouble. But he can't. He can't see."
