Whoopi Goldberg, a strong opponent of President Donald Trump, had the internet shocked after her name was mentioned in the Epstein files. Now, she’s defending herself.
The View star recently had to speak out about her name unexpectedly appearing in the latest release of the Epstein files on an episode of the daytime talk show. She had to clarify why exactly her name was there, like many celebrities have had to do in the last few weeks, and deny rumors that she had any personal ties to the famous criminal. Read more about her association with the files and how she defended herself below.

Whoopi Goldberg Explains Why Her Name Was In The Epstein Files On 'The View'
There are few topics being discussed in the media as much as the Epstein files, the documents and pieces of evidence related to the disgraced financier and his criminal actions. The latest release of the files, although it contained many redacted documents, has numerous celebrities needing to address their names showing up in them. One of the bigger surprises was seeing Whoopi Goldberg's name in a document, leading people to believe that the actress turned activist and television personality might've had ties to Epstein himself.
On a recent episode of The View, the show's co-host decided to address the matter as part of the show's agenda, given she was already receiving intense backlash on social media platforms. Whoopi explained that reps from Julian Lennon's charity, the son of John Lennon, were looking into getting her a flight on a private plane for an event.
"In the name of transparency, my name is in the files," she said during the episode, as reported by People. "Yes. And what does it say? It says, 'Whoopi needs a plane to get to Monaco. John Lennon's charity — it should say Julian Lennon's charity — is paying for it."

Whoopi Tells Social Media Users She Was Not Epstein's 'Girlfriend'
The Color Purple icon continued explaining the situation to her show's viewers, mentioning that she didn't even have a direct connection to the New York financier during that time, and that she never used his plane.
"This is my point, because I'm telling you, when people are trying to turn me into… I wasn't his girlfriend, I wasn't his friend," she continued. "You used to have to have facts before you said stuff."
Her fellow View hosts like Joy Behar began weighing in on the situation, noting that while Whoopi's name was in the files for that one instance, the President's name was in them many more times.
"I can't speak for him, but I'm speaking about me because I'm getting dragged!" she added. "People actually believe I was with him. Honey, come on. Every man I've ever been with, you've known about...People wrote about this. And no, I didn't get on the plane."
