Given the recent rise of gingham among fashion girls, other picnic staples are coming in to play now, too--mainly straw handbags that totally look like picnic baskets that Jane Birkin originated in the 1970s. We're seeing them on stylish arms everywhere--from The Man Repeller, aka Leandra Medine Cohen, to Gal Meet Glam's Julia Engel, the runways of Milan, and more.

The trend is a little random--I'm sure many of you would still rather grab a leather bag over one of these whimsical ones--but they are pretty fun regardless. Click through the slideshow for style inspo and to shop our favorite straw bags now.

Fashion Me Now Straw Bag

UK Blogger Fashion Me Now wrote of her love of the Jane Birkin-inspired trend here, and rocked a basket from Blooming Dreamer to prove it.

Leandra Cohen styled her Birkin basket with some jazzy green pants, feather top and a puffer coat. See, they can be styled with something other than pastel gingham!

Natasha Ndlovu straw bag

London-based influencer Natasha Ndlovu styled hers with a deconstructed men's shirt dress. Nice move!

We love the round top handle on this straw bag. You don't have to get one that looks *exactly* like a picnic basket, ya know?

See--you can wear them in the city. It's not just a park-goers trend.

They come in all shapes and sizes--this striped oversized number is incredibly practical.
