What Was Sharon Osbourne And Sheryl Underwood's Fight In 2021 About?

The infamous feud dates back to March 2021, when Osbourne and Underwood clashed during a tense episode of The Talk following comments made by controversial British broadcaster Piers Morgan about the former Suits actress.

Morgan had publicly criticized the Duchess of Sussex after her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which she alleged that she had experienced racism within the royal family. One example was that unnamed members of the royal family allegedly expressed concerns about the color of Meghan and Prince Harry's son Prince Archie's skin before he was born.

During the controversial episode, Osbourne defended her longtime friend Morgan, which sparked a heated discussion on air. Underwood explained why Morgan's comments about the Duchess of Sussex were widely viewed as racially insensitive, and why defending him could be seen as validating those remarks.

"What would you say to people who may feel that while you stand by your friend, it appears that you are giving validation or safe haven to something that he has uttered that is racist?" Underwood asked Osbourne during the discussion.

Osbourne pushed back strongly, telling Underwood: "I feel like I'm about to be put in the electric chair because I have a friend who many people think is a racist, so that makes me a racist."

She continued: "And for me, at 68 years of age to have to turn around and say 'I ain't racist,' what's it got to do with me?" Osbourne also asked: "Okay, how can I be racist about anybody? How can I be racist about anybody or anything in my life?"

As the conversation escalated, Osbourne pushed back, saying: "Educate me. Tell me when you have heard him say racist things." At one point, the former X Factor judge snapped at Underwood, saying: "Don't try to cry, because if anyone should be crying, it should be me."

The exchange quickly went viral and sparked widespread backlash. Following an internal investigation, CBS announced Osbourne would leave The Talk, with the network later stating the on-air discussion had "upset everyone involved."
