Selena Gomez had plenty to celebrate as she hosted her annual Rare Impact Fund Benefit, but her red carpet look has sparked a debate among fans and fashion enthusiasts.

The singer and actress stepped out in a custom red Prada dress for the star-studded event, which raises money and awareness for youth mental health. While many fans praised Selena for using her platform to support an important cause, others were less impressed with her outfit, pointing out what they thought was an awkward gap around the neckline that made the dress appear ill-fitting from certain angles. Selena Gomez Steps Out In A Red Sequin Prada Dress At Her Annual Gala

The Disney alum hosted the fourth annual Rare Impact Fund Benefit at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 14th.

The event supports the Rare Impact Fund, which was launched alongside her Rare Beauty brand in 2020 to help expand access to mental health resources for young people. The evening brought together several celebrities to support the cause, with Selena also taking the stage to celebrate the organization's work.

For the occasion, the Rare Beauty founder wore a custom cherry-red Prada dress featuring a strapless neckline, intricate sequin and bead embellishments, and a sculptural peplum waist that flowed into a fitted skirt. She completed the look with matching red satin pumps, diamond earrings, and several rings, including her engagement ring. Her brunette hair was styled with a sleek, center-parted front and soft waves down her back, while smoky eye makeup and a glossy nude lip finished off her glam.

Fans Are Divided Over Selena's Red Carpet Look

While many of the "Who Says" singer's fans applauded her for hosting an event dedicated to youth mental health, not everyone was sold on her red carpet ensemble.

Some social media users and fashion enthusiasts questioned the fit of the Prada dress, with some suggesting that the gap looked awkward in side-view photos. Others took issue with the overall silhouette, sparking a debate over whether the bold red look was a fashion hit or miss.

"Genuine question: Is the gaping in front purposeful to make the neckline look a specific way?" a Reddit user asked, as another added, "The side view makes it seem like the dress doesn't fit."

"So awkward!" a user responded. "It looks nice from the front, but I don't like the side view at all."

"I really wish they would start putting her in younger clothes," a user expressed. "She's gorgeous, in her early 30s, and has a great figure! She can be having way more fun with her looks than she is right now."

"The fit is bizarre as well; it looks tight around her back, causing pinching and skin folds, but there is large gapping at the top of the reverse scoop neck where it does not sit against her chest," another wrote.
