Savannah Guthrie Tears Up As She Returns To The 'Today' Show

It's been a tumultuous few months for the famous reporter, as since the beginning of February, she's been with her family in Tucson, Arizona, searching for her missing mom, Nancy Guthrie. It was discovered that in the middle of the night, the 84-year-old was likely abducted from her home against her will. Though police and detectives are working diligently, the mom of three is still missing, and some members of her family are beginning to fear the worst.

Two weeks ago, after it was revealed that she would be returning from work at some point this spring, an interview between Savannah and her friend, Hoda Kotb, who filled in for her while she was gone, aired and went viral. During her interview, she acknowledged that she started speaking about her mother in the "past tense," as she was "processing" her mother's absence. With that, as she holds out hope that her mom might return, or her family's questions will be answered, she's back in the city and back at work.

On Monday, Savannah was back behind her reporting desk at Today. On camera alongside colleague Craig Melvin, she said, "It's good to be home." But when she went outside to greet fans at the show's plaza, she saw fans holding signs and wearing yellow ribbons in honor of her mom, which caused her to break down in tears.

"These signs are so beautiful. You guys have been so beautiful," she emotionally said to the crowd, as reported by People. "I've received so many letters, so much kindness to me and my family. We feel it. We feel your prayers, so thank you so much."

Fans Continue To Show Savannah Support On Social Media

After her first episode back to work aired and clips were shared on social media, fans and other internet users began cheering her on. On platforms like Instagram, many left supportive comments, writing about how they love her and admire her bravery to try to regain some normalcy in her life during such a tumultuous time.

"I can't imagine returning to work, and in such a public forum," wrote a fan on Instagram. "She handles it with so much courage."

"Bravest person," added another. "Sending all the love to you and your family."

"We love you," wrote one user, as another commented, "I cried when I watched it live, and now I'm crying again while watching this clip."

As of right now, it looks like Savannah is back at work until there's a major update in her mom's case, and though she still seems quite emotionally battered, she certainly has a lot of fans on her side to cheer her on as she reacclimates to life on screen.
