Savannah Guthrie Debuts New ‘Voice’
It’s been a few weeks since Guthrie underwent vocal surgery to combat the nodules and polyps in her vocal cords, and the recovery process wasn’t easy. She had to be absolutely silent for two full weeks—which is quite a feat when you have two young kids at home.
During a video appearance on the Today show, Guthrie started out with a whiteboard to communicate before tossing it to the side and saying, “You know what, I think it’d be easier for me to just talk!”
Following some cheering from her co-stars, Al Roker, Craig Melvin, Jenna Bush Hager, Sheinelle Jones, and Carson Daly, she spoke a bit more about her recovery. “I am still on vocal rest, but I’m allowed to talk for five to 10 minutes every hour,” she said. “This is my new voice or my old voice, but my new voice.”
While Al Roker thought Guthrie “sounds the same,” Craig Melvin disagreed, saying, “No, it sounds, you sound markedly better!”
