Valentine’s Day was a highlight of last weekend, with numerous stars posting pictures of themselves and their loved ones, including members of the royal family, like Prince William and Kate Middleton.
On the love-themed holiday, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared an official portrait of themselves in black and white. While their fans typically love seeing new or unseen photos of the pair, and numerous ones did, others thought the post was “dreary” and didn’t have very good energy. On the same day, their estranged sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, shared a colorful photo of Prince Harry and their daughter, Lilibet, which ended up garnering more social media attention. Prince William & Kate Middleton Post A Valentine's Day Portrait On Social Media
Love was in the air this weekend as people around the world celebrated Valentine's Day. There were numerous celebrities and prominent figures who shared pictures of their loved ones on social media, and that included the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate.
The couple shared a portrait of themselves sitting together in a field and flashing big smiles for a photographer. The future king was wearing a button-down underneath a sweater, as his wife stunned in a similar outfit, with a white button-down blouse poking from underneath a top and jacket. The picture certainly had casual vibes, but was shared in black-and-white, making it a bit different from what they usually post. You can see it here!
After the photo was posted, many of William and Kate's fans praised them in the comments, but others felt there was something 'off' about it, and also pointed out how it seemed to be a photo taken during an older family photoshoot.

Fans React To William & Kate's 'Dreary' Post And Compare It To Meghan Markle's
The future monarchs weren't the only members of the royal family to post for Valentine's Day, as the famous former working royal, Meghan Markle, shared a special post to honor her husband, Prince Harry, and their two children.
The Duchess of Sussex has been much more active on social media, given she's rebranded herself into a lifestyle guru and media personality with her As Ever brand and Netflix series. Therefore, it didn't come as much of a surprise to fans when she shared a photo of her husband for the holiday. However, a special prize was included, as fans could see more of their young daughter, Lilibet's face, as her father held her with some red balloons in the colorful snap.
"These two + Archie = my forever Valentines," she wrote in her caption.
While many royal family fans tend to prefer any content William and Kate share, this time around, they felt their Valentine's Day post was much more 'sad' looking than the Harry & Meghan stars, and looking at their Instagram stats, they even received fewer reposts on Instagram than them.
"Looks like every one of their other photos, how boring," wrote an X user. "They look like an ad for a Sears catalogue."
"Why an old black and white photo?" asked another user. "So dark and dreary. Bring some color into our lives."
"Look at how miserable they are," added a user who wrote that "Harry is happy" with his new life, judging by his V-Day photo.
"To put a nail in the coffin, Harry & Meghan buried William & Kate on Google trends for Valentine's Day," noted an X user, who shared a photo of Google traffic.
We'll be curious to see if the future king and queen decide to share some new photoshoot snaps following the criticism from their Valentine's post, or if they'll simply keep pushing on.
