The One Charging Habit That's Shortening Your iPhone's Battery Life

Right now, we're about to enter the thick of summertime, and in numerous places around the country, temperatures are going to start heating up.

This also means that people are going to have their iPhones out and about in high temperatures, bringing them to the pool, onto the beach, maybe even just resting beside someone while they sit in the sun. Heat is a well-known enemy to iPhones, which is why if you're going to charge your phone somewhere warm, you'll want to make sure, at the very least, you're using high-quality chargers that won't make the situation worse.

"A major mistake is using low-quality, uncertified charging cables and power adapters," explains tech pro Michael Crapis. "Many third-party chargers don't properly regulate voltage and current, which can cause micro-stress on internal power management circuits over time. Even if the phone doesn't fail immediately, long-term instability can show up as battery health decline, overheating, or inconsistent charging speeds."

"Lithium-ion batteries are very temperature sensitive; excess heat raises internal resistance and chemical wear," adds expert Steven Athwal. "Over time, this causes overheating alerts and quickens battery degradation, meaning it won't hold a charge for long and will probably need a replacement battery."

So, this summer, do whatever you can to charge your iPhone in a cool space and with a high-quality charger. Next time you think about charging your iPhone in a hot space, at the very least, use an Apple-approved charger to protect your battery further.
