Netflix is reportedly having some trouble that has led to employee layoffs, and some social media users are looking to blame the Obamas.
The streaming giant is facing backlash after reportedly laying off around 1,000 employees, with some social media users blaming the streaming service’s content strategy for its latest cuts. Among those facing criticism are former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s production company, Higher Ground Productions, with some social media users arguing that the network’s collaborations with the couple have contributed to its struggles to attract viewers. Netflix Lays Off 1,000 Employees, According To New Report
Netflix is cutting approximately 1,000 jobs, or around 6% of its workforce, in its largest round of layoffs since 2022.
According to new reports, the employee reductions will affect the company's product, technology, legal, and human resources departments, as it looks to make changes to how it allocates its resources. The layoffs come as Netflix faces growing pressure to keep viewers interested and release more hit shows, while also competing with platforms like YouTube.
The company has also faced questions about whether it can find new shows that are as successful as some of its popular series that have ended, while some newer shows have seen their viewership drop sharply between seasons. Despite the job cuts, Netflix's co-CEOs have said the company is still doing well financially and remains on track to meet its financial goals for the year.

Social Media Users Lash Out At Barack & Michelle Obama
As news of the layoffs spread, some social media users pointed fingers at the streaming service's content and collaboration choices, particularly its partnership with Higher Ground Productions, the production company founded by Barack and Michelle Obama.
Critics of the famous family have questioned whether Netflix's collaborations with them have caused the audience numbers Netflix needs to decline, while others have used the layoffs to criticize what they describe as the "woke" content produced with Higher Ground. However, no reports have indicated that the streaming service's collaboration with Higher Ground Production or the Obama family has directly caused any of the decline.
"Netflix is firing 1,000 employees as the company continues to collapse," wrote an X user. "Their stock has plunged nearly 40% in the past year. Some of its biggest shows reportedly have lost more than half their viewers after just one season...They mocked Charlie Kirk's death. They betrayed their audience, and now they're facing the consequences. In other words, go woke, go broke."
"Netflix has become nothing more than a propaganda pusher with their new content," alleged another.
"I'm loving it!" a former subscriber responded. "We canceled our subscriptions months ago. Not only are they woke, but their selection is total crap."
One user wrote, "Thank god. Their woke nonsense is awful," as another responded, "They ruin everything."
"Anything tied to the Obamas is destined to fail," a user added.
