Michelle Obama turned heads in a dark green and white striped Carolina Herrera halterneck dress while speaking at a sold-out conversation for the Martha’s Vineyard Author Series on Sunday, August 23rd.
The former First Lady wore the chic Pre-Fall 2026 midi dress while promoting her new fashion book, The Look, during a conversation with MSNBC senior contributing editor and The Race Card Project founder Michele Norris. And judging by her stylish ensemble, it’s easy to see why her fashion evolution is worthy of its own book!
During the conversation, Obama reflected on the intense scrutiny her fashion choices received during her time in the political spotlight. “It wouldn’t matter what the content of the speech was. The way the press often covered it was, ‘She was wearing X, Y, Z. Her arms looked like this,'” she recalled.

The Becoming author truly shone in the dark green and white midi dress, which featured a halterneck, a fitted bodice, a dramatically full skirt, and a striking combination of horizontal and vertical stripes.
The mom-of-two accessorized with black heeled sandals that complemented the summery aesthetic, as well as some subtle earrings. She wore her hair in a sky-high ponytail, which allowed the statement halterneck silhouette to take center stage.
The striped dress wasn't Obama's only summer-ready look from the event. The IMO podcast host and Norris actually sat down for two back-to-back sold-out conversations about the book, at 4:30 PM and 7:30 PM, with Obama rocking a vibrant hot pink dress for the other conversation. It had a similarly dramatic silhouette, with a fitted bodice that opened into a voluminous full skirt.
Obama shared some pictures from the event with her Instagram followers on August 26th, and captioned the post: "I loved sitting down with my dear friend @michele__norris for two wonderful conversations about my book, The Look." She added: "A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at the Martha's Vineyard Author Series—your support truly means the world to me!"
