Melania recently sat down for an interview on Fox Business' The Big Money Show, where she was asked about balancing her responsibilities as first lady with spending time with her family. She offered a rare glimpse into what life is like for her, Donald, and Barron as Donald continues his second term as president and Barron navigates young adulthood and college.
The Slovenian native explained that finding time for all three of them can be difficult because their schedules rarely line up. She noted that Donald can sometimes remain in the Oval Office until late at night, making it impractical to wait for him to have dinner, while she and Barron also have their own busy schedules. As a result, she said the family doesn't get together for dinner as often as they might like.
"It's good to schedule, right?" she said. "It's always good because everybody's so busy...My husband is working—sometimes he's in the Oval Office till 9:30 at night, right? So do you wait until you have dinner? You don't, because he's busy. I'm busy too."
Melania Trump Says Her Family Is 'Suffering' From Less Time Together
While the former model acknowledged that the family's demanding schedules are part of their current reality, she also suggested that the lack of time together has affected their family dynamic. She said that they have "less" family time and described the family as "suffering" because of it.
"It's less and less family time. It's suffering because of it," she continued. "But that's okay. We are here to work, to do a good job, and that's what matters."
At the same time, the First Lady suggested that Barron, who is now 20, may not necessarily mind having more independence as he gets older.
"And Barron is already a young man, so sometimes he's maybe even happy that, you know, I just want to do my stuff," she added. "And that's okay."
Melania's comments also come amid reports and speculation about Barron's private life and the extent to which he is kept out of the public eye. Some recent coverage has characterized him as reclusive or isolated, though those reports and descriptions do not establish that he is actually being isolated by his mother.
