Meghan Markle Reportedly Didn't Like How Low Down Prince Harry Was In The Royal Family Line Of Succession
According to reports, the former Suits actress, 44, allegedly "couldn't understand" how the line of succession worked – and once she came to terms with it, reportedly didn't like that she and Prince Harry were so far down the list!
As it stands, Prince William is first in line to the throne, followed by his and Kate Middleton's three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Prince Harry currently sits fifth in the line of succession, with son Prince Archie and daughter Princess Lilibet in sixth and seventh places, respectively.
Bower shared these claims on the Kinsey Schofield Uncensored podcast while promoting his new book, Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family, and didn't hold back!
Meghan Markle Reportedly Thought She Would Be A Better Queen Than Kate Middleton
Bower claimed that insiders told him that Meghan allegedly struggled to accept her position within the royal hierarchy – particularly when it came to the future of the crown!
"Clearly, she thought... I've come to the conclusion, with the help of others on the inside, that she really thought she, rather than Kate, should be the next queen after Charles," Bower dished, adding: "She couldn't understand why she was better looking, and in her view, more intelligent, harder working, and everything, should be the queen." Woah!
"And she hated the idea that she and Harry were relegated so far down the order," he added, referring to Prince Harry's position as fifth in line to the throne.
Meghan Markle Thought She Would Be Treated 'Like God' As A Royal
During the interview, Schofield spoke to Bower about how Meghan's fame had skyrocketed after meeting and ultimately marrying the Spare author, saying: "She never acknowledges the fact that Harry is the reason she is where she is, does she?"
Bower agreed with Schofield, and went even further by suggesting Meghan believed her status would elevate her to an almost divine level after their marriage. "An establishment figure reported to the Queen [Elizabeth II] that Meghan thinks that once she marries into the royal family, she's going to be God. Which is pretty hilarious, but clearly, she believed it," he claimed.
This ties in with what Bower writes in the bombshell book, where he suggests Meghan's expectations of royal life didn't quite align with reality – or with the public's perception of the monarchy!
"The royal family is the nation's family and a national obsession," he wrote. "The royals may appear to be ordinary people," he continued, "but to maintain the monarchy, they relied on the public's willingness to treat them like God." He went on to say that Meghan ignored advice about royal protocol and etiquette and "thought she should be treated as God."
Did Megxit Occur Because Meghan Markle Realized She Would Never Be Queen?
According to Bower, this frustration ultimately played a role in the couple's decision to step back from royal duties, commonly referred to in the media as Megxit.
"She got everything she wanted and then knew what she wanted and couldn't get, and that was a lot. That's why, of course, she never intended to stay," Bower alleged.
In Betrayal, Bower also writes that Prince Harry's role as the "spare" to heir Prince William was another key factor. He claimed that the With Love, Meghan star "lamented Harry's unlikely chances of one day being king, just as she regretted the possibility that she would never be the queen."
