Meghan Markle has been grabbing headlines for all the wrong reasons once again, most recently for posting about Prince Archie‘s seventh birthday on social media, despite reports that Prince Harry wants to keep their children out of the public eye. And now the Duchess of Sussex is getting more negative attention for her latest social media post promoting As Ever!

In a promotional video for the controversial lifestyle brand which was shared on May 11th, the mom-of-two can be seen wearing a number of effortlessly stylish outfits, alongside occasional shots of her food spreads and curated home displays. But it’s the eye-watering cost of some of the looks that had social media users shaking their heads in disapproval…

Meghan Markle Looks Effortlessly Stylish In New As Ever Promo

The post was captioned: "Welcome to the world of As Ever. What began with fruit from Meghan's garden, simmered into preserves in her home kitchen, has inspired our curated collections to bring surprise and delight to your everyday."

The promo video opened with a shot of the former Suits actress posing while holding a cup of tea, wearing a simple white Anine Bing T-shirt teamed with straight-leg trousers from The Row. The outfit may have looked effortlessly stylish, but it certainly didn't come with a low price tag!

The Row is known for its sky-high prices, although the trousers from the luxury label weren't even the most expensive part of the look. Her jewelry is where things really became eye-wateringly pricey, as she accessorized the look with a Logan Hollowell diamond tennis necklace believed to cost around $62,950, along with Birks diamond earrings with a reported $6,900 price tag, and her signature Cartier Love bracelet, which retails for almost $8,000.

Meghan's love of white and neutral tones was evident throughout the entire video, as she also rocked a crisp white shirt paired with simple blue jeans in another scene. Meghan could also be seen wearing high-waisted, wide-leg blue jeans from the Tracy James Collection in another part of the video, which she paired with a white shirt and her hair in a chic updo, allowing her to show off her trendy Bottega Veneta Knot earrings.

Another look showed the With Love, Meghan star showing off some medium-wash Anine Bing jeans styled with a black top, a black The Row belt, and black Chanel flats. Elevating each outfit with her trusty designer jewelry – including her Cartier Tank Française watch which used to belong to the late Princess Diana – was a recurring theme throughout the video. And one which the internet wasn't too happy about!

Internet Reactions

The comments on social media ranged from people slamming Meghan for wearing such pricey pieces and calling her tone-deaf and out of touch, to others claiming she seemed more focused on herself than the actual products she was promoting. And of course, there were also plenty of comparisons to estranged sister-in-law Kate Middleton. A small minority of fans did defend her, though.

"She just makes me want to laugh. Not an ounce of the class, grace, beauty, or indeed any of the admirable qualities that the Princess of Wales has, in abundance," wrote one Instagram user. "Kate would never do this. It's so narcissistic," a second chimed in, as a third slammed: "Sooo out of touch with reality."

"Must be nice. As people can't afford food, gas, health insurance, etc," echoed a fourth, while a fifth added: "Way to read the room, Megs." "Oh this is embarrassing," wrote a sixth, followed by several crying laughing emojis, as a seventh asked: "How in the world are these photos supposed to encourage people to buy her jam?"

"It's just her posing in outfits. She's not concentrating on her products. It's always about her," observed an eighth, as a ninth noted: "No one is more obsessed with Meghan than Meghan." "She looks like a catalog model," added a tenth, followed by three crying laughing emojis, while an eleventh said: "She's so insufferable." "So relatable," quipped a twelfth, as a thirteenth admitted: "I have second-hand embarrassment."

Some fans did come to her defense, however, with one writing: "Let her live! The Cartier watch is from Princess Diana." "Leave the woman alone!" added a second, as a third echoed: "Leave Meghan alone!" "She worked and earned it," chimed in a fourth, followed by a red heart emoji, while a fifth asked: "Why are we hating on this chick?"
