Margaret Qualley has taken red carpet footwear to a whole other level with her latest, nearly barefoot look.
The Substance performer is no stranger to turning heads with her fashion choices, but her latest red carpet look has the internet scratching its head. The actress stepped out at the London premiere of The Dog Stars wearing a dramatic black dress and a pair of barely-there sandals that left most of her feet completely exposed, leading to lots of confused and critical reactions online. Though she’s one of the most talked-about actresses of her generation, she didn’t quite get all positive reactions this time. Read more about her viral red carpet shoes below.

Margaret Qualley Steps Out In Barely-There Sandals & A Dramatic Black Look For 'Dog Stars' Premiere
The 31-year-old attended the world premiere of The Dog Stars at London's Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on August 20th to promote the upcoming apocalyptic thriller, in which she stars alongside Jacob Elordi and Josh Brolin. The film is based on the Peter Heller novel of the same name and directed by Ridley Scott. It takes place nine years after a flu pandemic wipes out most of humanity and follows a pilot played by the Euphoria actor as he survives in an abandoned airport with his dog and fellow survivalists. In the movie, Margaret plays Cima, a doctor who crosses paths with Jacob's character. The film is set to hit theaters on August 28th, and premieres have been in full swing.
For the London premiere, the dancer leaned fully into the dramatic aesthetic of the movie, wearing an all-black Chanel ensemble, including a shaggy black dress covered in fringe from their Resort 2027 collection. She accessorized the look with chunky diamond earrings and a black manicure and pedicure, while wearing her glamorous long, black hair in loose, beachy waves.
Though her dress was considered lovely by many fans, it was her shoes that ultimately stole the spotlight. She wore Chanel's "barefoot sandals" from the Cruise 2027 collection, which are a unique pair that have a heel cap and ankle straps but no actual sole, leaving her toes and the ball of her foot exposed, making it look like she was barefoot on the red carpet.

Social Media Users Slam Margaret's Shoes Online
The Maid actress has established herself as one of Hollywood's more stylish stars, making bold and unconventional style choices on the red carpet that accentuate her slim, dancer frame. She's also worn Chanel on numerous occasions, making her decision to step out in their controversial sandals a lot clearer. Still, that didn't stop the internet from having some very strong opinions on them.
Though they added a quirky element to her otherwise elegant look, many social media users thought the shoes were not only "absolutely ridiculous," but also seemed unsanitary, given that so much of her feet looked exposed.
"The dress is okay," wrote a user on Reddit. "Nothing more, nothing less. These hideous things on her feet, on the other hand..."
"Do I have to say anything about those ridiculous shoes?" asked another. "I can't believe Chanel is having a celebrity walk a red carpet practically barefoot."
One user wrote that the stylists or Chanel team that put together the look "ruined it" with the shoes, noting they take away from the otherwise chic ensemble.
"I would have respected a totally barefoot look a lot more than the half-shoes," joked another.
