Kathy Bates Poses In An All-White Outfit At UCLA's Taste For A Cure Event

There are a few actresses in Hollywood who have captured people's hearts, like Kathy Bates, with her ability to step into various roles and transform people with her performances. As the decades have gone by, she's been able to transform herself as well.

Though many of her latest red carpet appearances have been related to her performance in the legal series she stars in, Matlock, the 77-year-old recently stepped out for an important charity gala. Last Friday, she attended the UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation's Taste For A Cure event in Los Angeles, an event that raises funds for cancer research and honors those who have made tremendous progress and discoveries in that field.

The American Horror Story performer walked the red carpet and stood on stage in a white outfit that consisted of a pleated, flowing white midi skirt, a large, white tailored blazer, and some classic white accessories like a pearl necklace. You can see photos of her at the event here!

Kathy Opens Up About Her Weight Loss & Journey With Cancer

At the event, attendees and fans were not only reminded that Kathy has had her own battles and journey with cancer, but that she had undergone a truly major health transformation over the last few years. In previous magazine interviews, she's opened up about how she beat cancer twice, surviving stage 1 ovarian cancer in 2003 and breast cancer in 2013, for which she had to undergo a double mastectomy.

"When I was so heavy in Harry's Law, I had to sit down in between every take, and it was awful," she told People. "I'm ashamed to have put myself through that, to be honest. But now that I've been able to get really healthy, I can move, I can breathe, I can have fun, I'm not sore."

Therefore, it's no surprise that events like the Taste For A Cure gala are so important to her. However, she's also made it clear that her life and health changed for the better when she started on her journey to lose weight for good around 2017-2018, following a diabetes diagnosis and the fear of getting cancer again. Now, she's 100 pounds lighter, losing 80 on her own through lifestyle changes, and an additional 20 through the help of a GLP-1 medication to get the last bit off and keep it off. She's not only eating better, but trying out various forms of exercise, with a super common one being her favorite - walking on a treadmill.

"I think it's the best exercise," she revealed. "Well, it's great for me, and I have a treadmill at home."
