One of the more anticipated royal family events of the springtime just occurred, but Kate Middleton‘s outfit for the occasion seems to be disappointing fans.
The Princess of Wales recently stepped out alongside Prince William for Buckingham Palace’s annual garden party on Friday, where members of the royal family dress in their finest springtime attire and interact with thousands of invited community and service members during teatime. This year, Kate opted for a black and white polka-dotted look, and though she tends to win over fashion critics, she didn’t necessarily do that this year. Read more about her outfit and how the internet reacted below.

Kate Middleton Steps Out In A Black And White Polka Dotted Dress For Buckingham Palace's Garden Party
Every spring, there are a variety of events attended by the royal family, but only a few get people quite excited, like the annual Buckingham Palace garden party.
The event is an opportunity for UK residents, thousands who are nominated to be honored guests, to meet members of the royal family, dress in elegant, springtime clothes, and enjoy an elaborate afternoon tea service throughout the palace's 40-acre garden. Most prominent members of the royal family are in attendance, including the Prince and Princess of Wales.
This year, Kate, whose looks for this event are often trendworthy, stepped out in a black-and-white polka-dot midi dress, with a coordinating jacket top that had large black buttons and was cinched at her waist. As expected, she wore a large, vintage hat, also in black and white, and accessorized with some tan-colored heels, a pearl clutch, and pearl earrings.

Social Media Users Slam Kate's Outfit As 'Boring'
After high-quality pictures of the 44-year-old and other members of the royal family at the party were shared on social media, as per usual, fans, other internet users, and fashion critics quickly started weighing in on everyone's looks.
Despite her usually making positive headlines with her elegant, colorful springtime style, Kate's black and white outfit strongly disappointed some of her fans. Not only did many of them find it too "boring" for a spring garden party, but they also felt it looked too similar to a lot of other dresses she had been wearing.
"She has this dress in like, five colors," wrote a Reddit user.
"I love the skirt, but this looks like several other things she owns," admitted another. "I'm not criticizing at this point because maybe she needs a refresh, but it is noticeable as someone who follows all the royal women."
"Her style is [increasingly] tired," commented a critic.
"She's always tended to find something and wear 6 versions of it in a dozen colors for months," observed another. "I mean, how many identical coats does she have? Coat dresses? I would like to see her wear more modern silhouettes and colors."
