Beyoncé and Jay-Z just made their own at-home version of an ad for her hair care line, ending in a drastic hair transformation for the rapper.
The couple created an advertisement for Cécred, the Grammy-winner’s hair care brand she’s been developing over the years. In the video, which was shared with fans online this week, Jay-Z sits down for a hair transformation from his wife after years of sporting voluminous freeform locs to a more relaxed, “taken down” afro that he reveals was inspired by his father and their daughter, Blue Ivy. Read more about the video and story behind it below.

Beyoncé Helps Jay-Z Transform His Hair In A New Cécred Video
One of the most famous celebrity couples of the last two decades has been the "Crazy In Love" artists, who occasionally give their large fan base an inside glimpse into their marriage, as well as live with their three children. Fans got that glimpse when they shared a documentary-style video that detailed the story of the Brooklyn-born rapper's hair transformation, which he debuted at this year's Roots Picnic music festival in Philadelphia last month. Many were shocked to see that his thick, long-term freeform locs had transformed into a taken-down afro.
For Father's Day, on June 21st, Beyoncé's hair care brand, Cécred, shared a 7-minute-long video she narrated detailing why the rapper decided to get rid of his locs after 8 years, and how her products helped him brush them out in a days-long process. In addition to hairstylists and friends, the singer herself and their daughter can be seen helping to brush out the locs.
"I was pretty obsessed with Jay's locks," she reveals in her narration. "Honestly, I didn't really want him to cut them. There's a lot of memories stored in locs. Locs can be like antennas connecting us to frequencies and energies. Hair grows. People grow. So the transformation can be emotional...The Cécred tools were fantastic...I think the key ingredient [was] our patience and love."

Beyoncé Reveals Their Daughter, Blue Ivy, Was The Inspiration Behind His Hair Growth
Many loyal fans of the music-making couple may remember that for decades, and when their first daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, was born in 2012, Jay rocked a "Caesar fade" hairstyle, with his hair being shaved down for years.
However, in the new video, the mom-of-three revealed that when their daughter began feeling insecure about her natural curly hair as a child, he was inspired to grow it out, showing her that he had the same hair texture, encouraging her to embrace it.
"Our daughter was about five, and she wasn't feeling very confident about her hair at that time," Beyoncé explains. "When she told her father that, it inspired Jay to grow out his hair. We really wanted her to love and embrace every inch of her gorgeous curls...And who would've thunk all of this healthy hair could grow beyond that low-cut Caesar with the deep waves? The five-year-old Blue had no idea her father's hair had texture like hers."
After the video was shared on Cécred's YouTube page, fans quickly began commenting on not only how much they loved the "Empire State of Mind" rapper's transformation, but also what it was all inspired by.
"Love the backstory of doing it to inspire Blue," commented a fan. "This is amazing."
"One thing I admire about the Carters- they move together strategically as a unit," wrote another. "There is purpose and intentionality to everything they do. What a beautiful way for a father to show up for his daughter."
"I literally cried," added another, as one user commented the video was "A beautiful Father's Day tribute."
