Gwyneth Paltrow has faced backlash for quite a few things over the years – from calling her divorce from Chris Martin an “unconscious uncoupling,” to cooking with her hair down, to promoting ultra-expensive, unattainable products through Goop (including controversial candles – if you know, you know!) and so much more.

And now she’s being slammed once again, this time for what social media users are calling an “absurd” and out-of-touch remark about “rich white dudes.” Keep reading for more details…

Gwyneth Paltrow Calls Out 'Super-Rich White Dudes' While Discussing AI And Tech

On May 5th, the official Goop Instagram account shared a snippet from the latest podcast episode, where the 53-year-old Oscar winner discussed the current state of Silicon Valley with longtime tech journalist Kara Swisher, 63.

The Marty Supreme actress, who reportedly has a net worth of $200M, spoke with Swisher about tech giants in Silicon Valley, the rise of AI, and the growing overlap between technology and politics. And it was while discussing wealth inequality that she made the controversial comment.

Paltrow asked: "How did we get here as a culture? Obviously, there's so much revenue and profit driving this whole thing. That's at the heart of it." The Shakespeare In Love actress continued: "But how do you think we got to this place in culture where nothing matters? Now all that matters is these super-rich white dudes who are breaking rules, setting rules, seemingly not caring so much about the downstream impact on everything, from health to culture."

Swisher then recalled an interview she did with the CEO of Meta, saying she felt that he was "not responsible for everything downstream," adding that society has "an idolatry of innovators and of wealth," with the belief that "if you're wealthy, you must be smarter."

"It's great to be innovative and make these things… We can argue about the valuation of it, but it's still astonishing," she added. "And at the same time, why does a small homogeneous group of people get to decide for the rest of us?"

Social Media Reactions To Gwyneth Paltrow's Comments

As expected, the comments section was full of reactions to the Iron Man 3 actress's remarks, with many users pointing out her own wealth, the luxury nature of her brand, and the high prices of Goop products.

"Super rich white dudes? Coming from Paltrow that is kinda funny," one Instagram user wrote. "Girl, you're literally also rich," a second pointed out, while a third reminded her: "Your net worth is 200 million." "She is excessively wealthy," added a fourth.

"I can appreciate the question and putting thought toward this, but also your brand is based on luxury and excessive wealth," wrote a fifth, as a sixth echoed: "What does Goop charge for makeup?!"

"How rich do you have to be to be 'super rich' to Gwyneth?" a seventh asked, followed by the sideways crying laughing emoji. "First of all, hello pot – meet kettle. Second, pretty sure there are people of all races & ethnicities in the tech industry," commented an eighth.

"I love all the celebrities who are coming out with their performative altruism or performative activism when they're part of the problem," a ninth chimed in. "The misinformation and hypocrisy is wild," a tenth added. "The absurd demonstrating they are the absurd," declared an eleventh, as a twelfth concluded: "Not everyone should be allowed a microphone."
