The president recently went viral after lashing out at another female reporter, calling her “dumb” after she asked a question about the growing budget for his White House renovations. The moment caught a lot of people’s attention, especially since it wasn’t the first time he had specifically attacked a woman during press conferences, marking a growing pattern during his interactions with the media. Donald Trump Calls A Female Reporter 'Dumb' During Press Meeting
The current president has been making a whole lot of headlines throughout his second term, from his controversial policies to health concerns and social media posts. In addition to all of that, he's also continually getting into hot water with reporters and lashing out.
Due to numerous things going on regarding foreign policy, the conflict in Iran, the United States economy, and more, whenever the apprentice star meets with members of the press, they tend to flood him with questions. This happened on Tuesday, May 12th, when reporters from various media outlets spoke to President Trump on the South Lawn of the White House before making an official trip to China for several days.
At one point, Akayla Gardner, a White House correspondent for MS NOW, began asking the president questions related to his ongoing and very controversial renovations to the East Wing of the White House, which will contain a ballroom, and reportedly has a growing budget of $400M. Previously, the budget was $200M. In addition to the East Wing, Trump has stated a desire for other aesthetic changes to Washington D.C. landmarks, like painting the Washington Monument's reflecting pool.
"What happened is that we have a ballroom that's under budget," he told Gardner. "It's going up right here. I've doubled the size of it because we obviously need that, and we're right now on budget, under budget, and ahead of schedule."
When Gardner told him the price of his renovations "has doubled," he responded, "I doubled the size of it, you dumb person."
Social Media Users Slam Trump For 'Exploding' at The Reporter
Though again, this is not the first time the 79-year-old has made an insulting comment towards a female reporter. Months ago, he called a journalist a "piggy" and told her to "be quiet" in the middle of a press meeting. He's also judged women in the field for "not smiling," and told another reporter she was "obnoxious."
Given that all of these incidents have happened in his second term, no one can quite get used to it, and anytime it happens, there are thousands of social media users who feel outraged. After "exploding" at Gardner and calling her "dumb," people began flooding various platforms to slam Trump, giving him a taste of his own medicine.
"We shouldn't tolerate anyone in a position of authority or otherwise talking to other people this way," wrote an X user. "He is a boil on the office."
"This guy should be removed from office, straight unprofessional!" added another.
One user went after his appearance, writing, "He's so old and angry, what a sad existence," with another writing that he was a "vile, orange piece of garbage."
"Wow, Trump name-calls like a second grader," wrote a user. "He's such an embarrassment."
"This bully must be stopped," added another.
"Such a disgraceful person," wrote a user.
We'll be curious to see if the former NYC mogul ends up making any other comments like this towards more female reporters in the future. One thing is for sure, and that's that thousands of people online are tired of hearing it.
