Donald Trump has been grabbing more headlines than ever lately, especially following this month’s state visit to China, which many critics deemed unsuccessful and “embarrassing,” among other things.
And now, he is also garnering attention due to some comments he made about his appearance, which unsurprisingly haven’t gone down well online…

Donald Trump Jokes About Looking 'So Thin'
The POTUS, 79, may have lost some weight in recent years, and apparently received positive health reviews from White House doctors, but many people online still don't think he looks particularly healthy. And Trump addressed the conversation in his own unique way recently…
The president joked about his appearance while unveiling plans for his controversial White House ballroom, which is already causing a stir due to its enormous reported cost. While posing with renderings of the proposed ballroom, Trump held one of the images in front of his body and joked to reporters that it made him appear much slimmer.
"I look so thin. They'll say, 'Oh, he's gotten so thin' because I'm holding this," Trump told reporters. "You don't have to look at my waist. You can look at this."
He then referenced President Xi Jinping, adding: "You saw enough of my waist along with President Xi." The remark appeared to reference recent photos and videos from their meetings during his China visit, where Trump's appearance had become a talking point online.

Donald Trump's Health And Weight
Trump does appear to have lost some weight in recent years, having reportedly weighed 240 lbs. in 2023 and 224 lbs. in April 2025. In November 2023, he even shared a letter from his physician that indicated he was in "excellent health." It also noted that Trump "will continue to enjoy a healthy active lifestyle for many years."
Trump previously mentioned making some changes to his diet to help with his weight loss. In an interview with Fox News in 2024, Trump seemed to deny weight loss injection rumors doing the rounds at the time, and insisted that he lost weight "the hard way." He noted that he wasn't able to "eat like a person" due to all the hectic things going on in his life, adding: "Me, it's a little bit tougher."
During an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity in 2025, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said: "I saw him yesterday and I think he's lost 30 lbs." Hannity agreed, saying: "He looks great. He told me if he has a burger now, he usually doesn't have it with a bun."
Trump has also credited golfing as his main form of exercise, after previously speaking negatively about traditional workouts. He once told the Wall Street Journal: "I just don't like it. It's boring."

Internet Reactions
Many people didn't think the POTUS was "thin" while he was holding the White House renderings at all – the word "obese" was thrown around a lot online! – and didn't hesitate to voice this across social media...
"Is this a joke?" asked one Reddit user. "Dementia AND body dysmorphia," slammed a second, as a third echoed: "He has the opposite of anorexia. He says he looks thin. He thinks he is thin, when the reality is that he is obese."
"Did someone put a fun house mirror in the Oval Office?" asked a fourth. "Thin compared to Jabba the Hutt," quipped a fifth. "So being a fat [expletive] now means thin, that tracks," mocked a sixth, followed by the crying laughing emoji.
The comments continued on X, as a seventh said: "If someone had told us during the Obama years that a U.S. president would one day joke publicly about hiding his belly and [expletive] with architectural renderings, we would've called them delusional. Yet here we are."
An eighth called him "deranged," while a ninth wrote: "A grossly obese & very unhealthy elderly soon to be 80 year old man." "Trust me nobody is going to accuse you of being thin! They will accuse you of 50 other things that you are but thin ain't one of them bubba!" concluded a tenth.
