Planning to make a berry pie this fall? If you’re using frozen fruit, you should make sure you don’t have a recalled variety stocked in your freezer. Publix, Walmart, and Trader Joe’s shoppers should be especially cautious.

Frozen blueberries and mixed berries from the three stores have been recalled due to E. coli contamination, the FDA reports. This recall by Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. began in July, first impacting organic frozen blueberries sold at Publix; the Walmart and Trader Joe’s varieties are a recent extension.

What to do with recalled berries

Even if you bought these berries a long time ago, you might still have them in the back of your freezer. That's why it's important to check and make sure you don't consume contaminated berries. If you are in possession of any of the recalled products, the FDA urges you to throw them out or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

No illnesses have been linked to this recall yet, but taking recalls seriously is essential to the health and wellbeing of you and your family.

Stay safe!
