This year’s Met Gala was filled with rising nepo babies, but one of the most talked-about appearances came from Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s daughter, Blue Ivy.
Making her Met Gala debut at just 14 years old, Blue wore a custom white strapless Balenciaga gown featuring a structured corset-style bodice and dramatic bubble-hem skirt. She completed the look with a matching bomber jacket, dark sunglasses, and a reported $450K Henry & Henry Rivière diamond necklace centered around a 5.39-carat yellow diamond.

Blue Ivy Called A 'Bratty Nepo Baby'
The rising dancer and singer posed on the carpet alongside her parents, but viral videos from the event quickly sparked conversation online after showing several tense moments involving her sunglasses.
In clips circulating on social media, Beyoncé’s longtime publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, and later Jay-Z himself, appeared to repeatedly ask Blue to remove the glasses while posing for photographers. However, she seemingly refused, at one point pushing the sunglasses further up her face instead.
The family’s stylist, Ty Hunter, was also seen stepping in during the interaction before Blue reportedly agreed she would take them off once she reached the top of the Met steps—away from most cameras.
The internet was immediately divided over the exchange. Some critics labeled her behavior bratty, while others praised her confidence and commitment to her styling choices.
“Nothing like a nepo baby,” one Instagram user wrote. Another commented, “She looks upset.” Others defended her, with one person writing, “She told her daddy I’m gonna take them off upstairs and that was the end of that.”
Some users questioned whether someone her age should attend the event at all. “She should be at home. A child shouldn’t be attending an adult event—it doesn’t matter who their parents are,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “That’s the nervous laugh of a parent who knows their child is being bratty.”
Meanwhile, many fans rallied behind Blue. “I’m glad she did what she wanted,” one supporter commented. Another wrote, “Love her confidence to stand up for her vision.” Others pointed out that the sunglasses were clearly intended as part of the overall look, with one fan saying, “They shouldn’t have even asked her. It’s part of HER outfit.”

Beyoncé Returns To The Met Gala After 10 Years
Aside from the nepo baby discourse, Beyoncé also took time to speak with Vogue at the Met Gala about what it felt like returning to the iconic steps after a decade away.
“It feels surreal [to be back] because my daughter’s here. She looks so beautiful. It’s incredible to be able to share it with her, and I think she looks so incredible,” she said.
When asked what she was most looking forward to during the evening, she added, “I think it’s really just experiencing this through the eyes of Blue and being able to relax.”
