Bella Hadid Stuns for Vogue Italia
Her sister Gigi interviewed her for the magazine and asked how she tapped into certain instincts for the role with Ryan Murphy’s guidance.
“I mean, Ryan really has such a calm demeanor… When Ryan talks, you listen, and I think that’s really important in a person. He made me go really outside of my comfort zone, which made me have to release that control again, the control to look good or to do things perfectly. He just said: ‘I need you to freak out…’. He pushed me from the beginning so that by the middle, when we were shooting the toilet scene, I was like, you want me to drink out of a toilet? You know, anything that he asked, I really wanted to fulfill. And, you’ve known that through my whole life, whether it was in modeling and now with acting, whoever it is that I’m working for, specifically in this case, the director, I just want to be able to do the best I can and form into whatever character they need me to be to the best of my ability. I can look crazy, I can do this, I can do that, but I had a lot of faith in him, in the effects, in the editing, and in my own abilities; he gave me a lot of confidence,” she said.
The runway icon then opened up about her Lyme disease journey, adding, “And sometimes I was in a lot of pain, both emotionally and physically, because we shot that for probably six months. I shot half of that in between my Lyme treatment, so physically, it was kind of a lot on my body. And I was just dealing with some things in my personal life, so emotionally it was a lot, and I was able to really manifest that in my body and put it into the art and to the work. And that for me was really fulfilling, I think, to be able to express myself in that way.”

Bella Hadid Talks About Declining Jobs During Lyme Disease Treatment
During her treatment, she said, “Having to say no to every job for almost a year, which I cried about. I was emotional because you feel disposable.”
Her older sister then asked, “What does it feel like in your body or in your head when you know you’re pushing it too hard? When do you know that you need real rest?”
The 29-year-old replied, “I don’t think I’ve learned that yet, unfortunately…”
Bella has been openly battling chronic Lyme disease since her diagnosis in 2013, experiencing symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, and severe joint and bone pain. She has documented her long and difficult journey, including extensive ongoing treatment, and revealed that she underwent more than 100 days of treatment in 2023.
Her mother, Yolanda Hadid, and brother, Anwar Hadid, have also struggled with Lyme disease.
