Graduation season is officially here, and that means that not only are everyday teens saying goodbye to their high school or college years, but so are some of today’s ‘nepo babies,’ like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie‘s daughter, Zahara.
Over the weekend, the daughter of the two movie stars graduated from Spelman College in Atlanta. In videos and reports, fans of the notable family were immediately intrigued when her name was called for her to receive her diploma, and the last name ‘Pitt’ was not included. This didn’t come long after reports that other members of their family had dropped the heartthrob’s last name, and that he’s very much “estranged” from his children. Zahara Jolie Graduates From College Without Her Father's Last Name
On Sunday, May 17th, the third eldest child of the Mr. & Mrs. Smith actors, 21-year-old Zahara, graduated from Spelman College. The young woman excitedly received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology during a commencement ceremony at the college in Atlanta.
Following her parents' divorce in 2024, Zahara, like some of her other siblings, has been making more public appearances as she's gotten older, attending red carpet events like the 36th Annual Palm Springs International Film Awards with her influential mom. She was also one of the faces of an Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority event at her school in 2023, where she introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie, instead of Zahara Jolie-Pitt. As it turns out, she did the same thing for her college graduation.
During the commencement ceremony, which was livestreamed online, the psychology major was called up to receive her diploma by the name Zahara Marley Jolie, despite her having her father's last name in the graduation program. Footage from her graduation can be seen here.
Brad Pitt Is Reportedly 'Estranged' From His Kids As He Reportedly Misses Zahara's Graduation Ceremony
For some people who've been following the iconic former couple's messy divorce story and family life, the fact that the college graduate didn't use her dad's last name during the ceremony might not come as a surprise.
Aside from him making fewer public appearances with his six children, over the last few years, more and more reports have emerged that the F1 actor is extremely distant from them since his and Angelina's divorce. Sources from his inner circle have accused the actress of "alienating" him, while others have pointed the blame and dissolution of his relationships with his kids on him. Therefore, it's also not much of a surprise that he wasn't present for his daughter's graduation.
"Nothing prevented him from showing up for her or ever visiting her," a source told TMZ. "The day was about all she accomplished. Not whether he was willing to attend."
The insider, who is allegedly close to the Maria actress, also stated that Brad is "so estranged from his kids because of the animosity directed at him towards Jolie, that any outreach would be unwelcome."
This aligns with a 2024 insider report from People that he and many of his kids were "virtually no contact," as they start to make their way in the world.
