Billie Eilish is facing backlash online over the price of her latest fragrance after previously urging billionaires to give away their wealth, with critics accusing the singer of “hypocrisy.”

The Grammy-winning artist’s new Eilish Intense perfume, priced at $88 on the official website, has become the focus of criticism from social media users who question whether selling a luxury fragrance aligns with her comments about wealth and capitalism.

In a YouTube video, commentator Angela Rose criticized the perfume’s price and the business model behind celebrity fragrances, arguing that the “Lovely” hitmaker benefits financially from a system she has publicly criticized.

Billie Eilish Called A 'Hypocrite' Over $88 Perfume

“Billie Eilish just came on the radio saying she cannot wait for us to try her new perfume,” Rose said in the video, before questioning the cost of the fragrance.

Rose also compared Eilish’s perfume with less expensive alternatives, pointing to products priced at $26 and arguing that consumers could find more affordable options.

“Billie Eilish should be thankful that she has thousands and thousands of people working to help her sell her product while she sits around,” Rose said, criticizing the way celebrity branding can contribute to the price of a product.

The backlash follows Eilish’s widely discussed comments about billionaires, in which she challenged wealthy individuals to use their fortunes to help others.

During her acceptance speech at the WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards in New York City on October 29, 2025, Eilish called on wealthy individuals to share their fortunes, saying, “If you're a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but, yeah, give your money away, shorties.” She added, “I'd say if you have money, it would be great to use it for good things, maybe give it to some people that need it.”

At the event, organizers announced that Eilish would donate $11.5M from her "Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour" to organizations focused on food equity, climate justice, and reducing carbon emissions.

Still, critics have since questioned the contrast between those remarks and the singer’s own luxury offerings. Rose also argued that celebrity fragrances can generate significant profits through brand recognition and retail sales. However, the video’s estimates of how much the 24-year-old earns per bottle were speculative, and her actual earnings from the perfume were not established in the discussion.

The criticism has also spread through social media, where users have shared memes and comments questioning whether celebrities can criticize capitalism while selling premium products.

Fans React To Eilish's 'Expensive' Perfume

Under the YouTube video, critics shared their reactions to the controversy.

One commenter wrote, “Seems like she’s enjoying that capitalism lifestyle while also critiquing it.” Another added, “I will NEVER support Billie Eilish or any other of those hypocrites!!”

“No perfume should cost $88 on stolen land,” another person commented, referencing Eilish’s previous remarks about stolen land. Meanwhile, another viewer argued, “Billie Eilish looks like she is not too far from being a billionaire herself with her music career and other business ventures.”

Other commenters called for a boycott, with one writing, “Boycott the entitled brat!” Another criticized the fragrance’s price, saying, “Almost 100 bucks is just ridiculous.”

Eilish Intense is the latest fragrance associated with the artist's perfume line. Priced at $88, the scent is marketed to fans and fragrance shoppers looking for a product tied to Eilish’s personal brand.

Celebrity fragrances often command premium prices because of branding, packaging, distribution and marketing, in addition to the fragrance itself. For fans, the appeal can extend beyond the scent to the opportunity to buy a product associated with a favorite artist.

Whether the $88 price tag is worth it ultimately comes down to individual preferences and budget. But for Eilish, the launch has prompted a broader debate about celebrity wealth, consumer spending and whether public statements about economic inequality should influence how fans view an artist’s business ventures.
