Twitter users are mocking Melania Trump‘s senior advisor after he tried to boast about the first lady’s documentary outperforming Tom Cruise’s latest movie, Digger, at the box office.

The advisor, Marc Beckman, took to social media to highlight the films’ opening-weekend earnings per theater, arguing that Melania had the stronger performance despite opening in fewer theaters. However, his attempt to celebrate the documentary’s numbers has prompted plenty of ridicule online, with critics pointing out that both films struggled commercially and that the first lady’s project received overwhelmingly negative reviews. Read more about his post and how the internet reacted below.

Melania Trump's Advisor Boasts About Her Documentary Outperforming Tom Cruise's 'Digger' On X

Tom Cruise's latest film, Digger, recently hit theaters, but the political satire had a disappointing opening weekend despite the Hollywood star's leading role. According to entertainment outlets, the film earned approximately $8 million domestically and $20 million worldwide, making it a significant box-office disappointment for a production reportedly costing between $160 million and $180 million.

Rather than letting the film's disappointing numbers speak for themselves, Melania Trump's senior advisor Marc Beckman seized the opportunity to promote the first lady's documentary, Melania, which was released in January. He claimed that the documentary outperformed Digger by approximately 67% on a per-theater basis, despite playing in roughly half as many theaters.

However, while Melania earned around $7.16 million during its opening weekend, it went on to gross approximately $16.7 million worldwide amid widespread criticism and poor reviews.

Twitter Users Mock Melania's Advisor Over His Box Office Comparison

The advisor's attempt to see the comparison as a win for the first lady's documentary quickly attracted criticism, with social media users questioning why he was celebrating a movie's performance by comparing it to another film that had also struggled at the box office.

Many also pointed to the documentary's reported production and marketing costs, arguing that earning more per theater than Digger was hardly the impressive achievement he suggested. Others simply found the comparison hilarious, using the opportunity to poke fun at both the advisor's post and the highly criticized documentary.

"So it outperformed one of the biggest bombs ever?" responded an X user. "Quite an achievement, being slightly less of a bomb."

"Yeah, but Digger is an interesting film actually about something, and Melania is a godawful piece about a vain, vapid model, history's worst First Lady, who exists staring at herself in the mirror, trying on clothes and yammering about her 'creative vision,'" slammed another.

"This is hilarious," one user wrote, as another responded, "Man, that's some lame number crunching you're doing there. Anyone who has ever read a spreadsheet is laughing at you."

"That's like saying this sewer rat is prettier than this other sewer rat," a user joked. "Please sit down."

"Just give up already," added another. "No one respects her."
