Kelly Clarkson recently made some comments about artificial intelligence that have some of her fans preparing to boycott her music.

The American Idol alum was recently a guest on the popular Las Culturistas podcast where she cheekily admitted that she’s “obsessed” with using AI in her everyday life. She gave a brief glimpse into how she uses it and added that she’s into using it ‘artistically.’ Though she might be into AI-generated music and music-making tools, she did note that she doesn’t want it replacing ‘human’ music. Despite that stance, her comments were enough to generate a massive wave of online backlash. Read more about what she had to say below.

Kelly Clarkson Admits She’s ‘Obsessed’ With AI On ‘Las Culturistas’

The “Since U Been Gone” singer recently appeared on the September 30th episode of Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers’ Las Culturistas podcast, where she discussed everything from her career and creativity to her thoughts on artificial intelligence during the show’s “I Don’t Think So, Honey” segment.

During the conversation, Kelly opened up about her enthusiasm for AI, revealing that she is particularly interested in its creative and artistic possibilities. She also said she uses ChatGPT and sees AI as a potentially exciting tool for music and other creative projects.

“Here’s the thing — I love AI,” she said. “There are very amazing things with AI that I am obsessed with. I’m very into it artistically, too. I have fun with it just like everybody else does…But when you see AI artists competing on a chart with humans, I have an issue. I think there should be a separate chart.”

Kelly's AI Comments Spark Backlash from Fans

While the singer-songwriter made it clear that she does not want AI-generated artists competing directly against human musicians on the same charts, her positive comments about the technology still sparked backlash from some fans and listeners online.

Some fans appeared particularly upset by the television show host's enthusiasm for AI, with reactions going so far as to suggest that they could stop supporting the singer or leave her fandom altogether over her stance on the controversial technology.

"Not my Kelly," responded a disappointed fan on X.

"Girl, there should not be any charts for AI music," added another.

"All my idols letting me down this past month," one fan wrote, as another added, "I'm sorry, you've gotta go, Kelly."

"Kelly, this is incredibly disappointing coming from you," one fan commented. "AI is quite literally destroying our planet...We shouldn't be encouraging the use of AI on such a large scale at all."

"She lost me," a now-former fan added.
