Angelina Jolie is one step closer to leaving Los Angeles – and heading to Europe, or any other destination of her choosing! – as the six-bedroom, 10-bathroom Los Feliz estate she has lived in since splitting from Brad Pitt has officially sold!
The 51-year-old Oscar-winning actress previously revealed that she planned to stay in Los Angeles until her and Pitt’s two youngest children – twins Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Léon – turned 18. Angelina Jolie's LA Mansion Sells For $24.75M
According to reports, the Eternals actress purchased the Los Feliz property for $24.5M in 2017. She then put it on the market for $29.9M in May, two months before the twins turned 18. The historic estate sold for $24.75M on Thursday, September 24th – and although it's not quite the figure Jolie was hoping for, she may be okay with it given how keen she appears to be to move on from Los Angeles.
The sprawling property sits on roughly two acres and includes a fitness studio, tea house, guest house, and pool house, as well as impressive views of the Hollywood Hills and Griffith Observatory. The estate was originally designed by architect B. Cooper Corbett in 1913, and was once owned by legendary filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille. Wow!
DeMille purchased the property in 1916 and later joined it with a neighboring home that had previously belonged to Charlie Chaplin, giving the already-impressive estate even more Old Hollywood history.
"The legendary Cecil B. DeMille estate is now discretely being offered, marking a once-in-a-generation opportunity to own a piece of Hollywood history – an iconic compound from which Hollywood's future was shaped, and where Mr. DeMille helped define the industry as the entertainment capital of the world," the original listing description read.
DeMille remained at the estate until his death in 1959, and the property subsequently passed through the hands of several long-term owners. The owner immediately before the Maria actress reportedly lived there for around 30 years, before selling it to her in 2017.
Angelina Jolie Could Move To Europe After Saying She Doesn't Recognize The US
The Maleficent star hasn't confirmed where she will be moving to, or whether her other U.S. properties will also be sold. However, it's been reported over the past year that the mom-of-six could follow in the footsteps of Ellen DeGeneres and Rosie O'Donnell and move to Europe, especially given some of the negative things she has said about the current state of the U.S.
Last year, People reported that the Girl, Interrupted alum was considering several destinations outside the U.S., with an insider claiming that she "never wanted to live in L.A. full time," but didn't have a choice because of the custody arrangement with the F1 actor.
The insider said she was "eyeing several locations abroad." Europe has been floated as a possibility for a while, especially as Jolie already has plenty of history there. She previously spent extended periods in London and worked on humanitarian projects in the city, so it wouldn't be too surprising if she moved there.
The Couture actress spoke about her desire to leave the U.S. at the San Sebastián International Film Festival last September, where she was asked about her concerns surrounding freedom of expression in the country. She said at the time: "Anything, anywhere that divides or limits personal expressions and freedoms, I think, is very dangerous. I don't, at this time, recognize my country. I've always lived internationally. My family is international. My life, my worldview, is equal [and] united."
While there is a good chance that her next place of residence will be somewhere in Europe, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that the Atelier Jolie founder could head straight to Cambodia, where she adopted eldest son Maddox in 2002. She has previously called the country the one place "in my heart" that she considers home, so it would make sense!
