Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could have another Netflix project up their sleeves, as they are reportedly “gathering content” for their own documentary about the late Princess Diana. And according to one royal expert, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could stand to make “millions” from the potential project if all goes well!
There has been plenty of speculation about why Harry and Meghan have decided to temporarily move to the U.K., with King Charles‘ health and their reported dwindling finances among the suggested reasons. But could gathering material for a Princess Diana documentary be another one? According to royal expert Tom Sykes, it certainly could!

Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Are Reportedly 'Gathering Content' For Princess Diana Documentary
According to reports, the documentary could be released next year to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana's death in August 1997. And Sykes hinted on The Royalist podcast that the couple's recent time in the U.K., as well as their current living situation, could be connected to the potential project.
"They're not just trying to set up a normal U.K. life. They are trying to gather content for a Diana film. That is what they're doing here," Sykes claimed, also revealing that he first heard about plans for a Diana documentary from Hollywood sources as early as August 2025, when the couple still had their original, five-year $100M production deal with Netflix.
Interestingly, Prince Harry, Meghan, and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, visited Diana's childhood home, Althorp House, during their U.K. trip in July. Meghan later shared pictures from the visit to the estate, where Diana is buried.
"That's what they're doing back here. They are back here to make that film. They are back here to make millions and millions of dollars out of that film," Sykes went on, claiming that the prospective documentary is one of the reasons "Netflix has kept them on the books."
We don't know exactly whether Netflix will pick up the documentary or whether it will go to another streamer or channel. But Sykes' comments come after several of the Sussexes' Netflix projects received mixed reactions...
Prince Harry's Polo documentary was widely mocked following its release, while Meghan's With Love, Meghan cooking and lifestyle series also proved divisive, and was canceled after just two seasons.
Sykes went on to suggest that the controversy surrounding the couple and their return to the U.K. could ultimately generate even more interest in a Diana documentary. "It's all conflict. It's all stirring up interest. They create loads and loads of controversy around themselves," he went on, adding that "there's no such thing as bad publicity."
Princess Diana's Brother Charles Spencer Releases Controversial New Memoir
The reports come at an interesting time, as the late Princess of Wales is once again in the spotlight following the release of her brother Charles Spencer's controversial new memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister.
Despite saying in a 1998 interview that he would never "profit" from his late sister's death, Spencer recently told the BBC that he felt he had a "duty" to record his story. "I was an eyewitness to history and it's my duty in the final season of my life," he explained. "I wanted to just put things down once and for all that were true."
King Charles didn't come across particularly well in the memoir, with Spencer alleging that the then-Prince of Wales sounded "giddily elated" following Diana's tragic death in 1997. Spencer also claimed that Charles later told him during a disagreement over Diana's funeral arrangements: "Rest assured, we'll forget her soon enough."
Buckingham Palace pushed back against Spencer's account, saying in a statement that while it does not comment on books as a matter of principle, "the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgement and color memory in ways others do not recognize, even many years after such a loss."

Royal commentator Ingrid Seward also weighed in, and reportedly suggested that Prince William and Prince Harry wouldn't be happy with some of the claims made about their father, despite the brothers' own strained relationship with the monarch.
"I would think that they're also absolutely horrified that their uncle should say something like that about their father. I think they would be absolutely horrified and furious. You know, he's their father," Seward said on the Right Royal Podcast.
"And as for Diana, I mean, it's the last thing in the world she would ever want is for anyone to put her husband down. She could, but no one else can," she added.
Interestingly, Meghan appeared to subtly reference the book by sharing a swan emoji on a September 18th post on her As Ever lifestyle brand's Instagram page, which some royal watchers didn't think was a coincidence.
