Each installment of the six-episode series will center around a different book and will feature a new guest each week. The series kicked off earlier this week with special guest Tom Hanks, and the pair discussed The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin. Barack Obama Announces New Podcast
Through the media company that he owns with his wife, Michelle Obama, called Higher Ground, Barack launched this series to "discuss the book that have profoundly shaped his worldview and our society," according to Audible.com, with whom they partnered with for the release.
Obama himself said of the project: "Great books have always helped me figure out who I am and what I believe. The six books featured in this series have stayed with me throughout my life, and each one has something to teach us about the human experience."
"For this podcast," he continued, "I invited some friends to explore why they resonate, how they can shape our understanding of ourselves and each other, and why literature matters now more than ever. I hope listeners will be inspired to discover or rediscover books that change the way they see themselves and the world."
