Kylie Jenner recently sat for an interview with Who What Wear, talking a lot about how she found success at such a young age. From launching her own company to Forbes declaring her the youngest-ever self-made billionaire, Kylie had achieved more before age 20 than most people do in a lifetime, and a lot of that is due to her famous family and the platform its given her. Kylie, however, just revealed that she doesn’t think the privilege she grew up in gave her that much of a leg up. Keep reading for more information.

Kylie Jenner Denies 'Privilege' Helping Her Billionaire Status

In 2019, Forbes released a magazine with Kylie Jenner on the cover and quite the controversial headline: "Youngest-Ever Self-Made Billionaire." There were two things wrong with that headline—the first being that the youngest of the KarJenner clan wasn't quite a billionaire at the time. An investigative report revealed a year later that Kylie's team provided fabricated tax returns and exaggerated revenue figures for Kylie Cosmetics that inflated her net worth by millions.

The second thing wrong with the headline, or at least what fans saw as wrong, was calling Kylie "self-made." Kylie had a platform beginning at nine years old, when the first episode of "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" premiered.

To this day, Kylie argues that she was—and is—self made. In her recent interview with Who What Wear, she argued that she didn't inherit any of her wealth, which makes every penny she's earned "self made."

"None of the money I've ever made is inherited, so it's technically true," Jenner said of her self-made status. "But people just feel like the privilege I've had was a major stepping stone."

Social Media Reactions

Many social media users immediately took issue with the fact that Kylie thought her success was organic, rather than jumpstarted by her famous family. "She's not self made at all," one person wrote on Instagram. "Everything was handed to her. her mother and family have so many connections. self made is someone who comes from nothing and built themselves."

"Privilege is the main factor here," another person pointed out.

"Why are rich people incapable of acknowledging that they are put into rooms and situations that most people will never see or have connections in the industry to get into?" asked a third user.

"She is the nepo baby of all nepo babies," added another.

"Her privilege and coming from a rich family was a major stepping stone," agreed another. "For her to pretend it wasn't is just ridiculous."

"Two words: rich and clueless," a final user wrote.
