Pete Hegseth Denies Conditions On US Military Ship

While answering questions from Newsmax, Hegseth avoided addressing the reports of supply shortages, contaminated water, and deteriorating mental health conditions. However, he did say that the conditions aboard the ship have been "completely misrepresented."

"Listen, we make sure that every ship, every crew, every captain has everything we can provide them at every single moment," he said. "Some deployments are longer than others, and I have more respect and gratitude for those sailors than anybody. What they do in those high seas and those austere conditions with less port calls, it’s incredible."

He also added that he wants to see the service members "home as soon as everybody else" does. "My commanders know that, our service secretaries know that, [Trump] expects that."

The USS Abraham Lincoln has been deployed for 266 days, 200 of which were spent at sea without a port visit, which is a modern Navy record.

Social Media Reactions

Across social media platforms, users were appalled at Hegseth's response to the conditions aboard the ship. "So, he's calling military members liars?" one person asked on TikTok.

"Do an interview with them from the ship," suggested the next user.

"I prefer to believe the sailors than the lying administration," said another.

"This man has no respect for our military members much less those aboard the USS Lincoln," one user wrote. "These sailors and their families are not just making things up. This is unacceptable! We're spending billions on WHAT?"

"As a veteran; this is a shame," agreed another. "Down right disgusting."

"This is disgraceful," said another.

"He's a liar," a final user said. "I would not believe anything this administration says."
